Ahmedabad, Sept 5: It was a small-scale ceremony, but the ideas reflected a leader-in-the making. Narendra Modi on the occasion of Teacher's Day felicitated the best teachers of Gujarat as a mark of respect for the profession.

Addressing their contribution to the society, he said that we are in the era of learning and it is important that the teachers learn too, as that is what gets reflected in the child too.

Remembering the immense contribution of Dr Radhakrishnan Modi said,"We have seen many Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers etc but some people inspire for generations to come. Dr. Radhakrishnan is one such stalwart. We do not remember him for the files he signed or the decisions he took but we remember him as an excellent teacher."

He also appreciated the teachers for the love and care that they had been showing to the differently-abled children and the poor.

"Honooring a teacher is a matter of pride for me and I want to be there personally every time," he said. The well-being of the teachers was also in his mind, which is why he declared that he wishes to implement certain fresh ideas for the community.

On a light note, he said, "the Government is looking at increasing the scale of this event as well as the prize money, which has become imperative considering the fact that the Rupee is in the ICU!".
