Kashmir: PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 240 MW Uri-II hydropower project
Baramulla, July 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 240 megawatt Uri-II hydropower project in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. Just a mile away from the Line of Control, the de facto border divided Kashmir between Pakistan and India.
Built by NHPC, the 240 MW Uri-II project was dedicated to the country by the PM. It was built at a cost of Rs 2290 crore. The 480-MW Uri-I project, which is already functional, is located downstreams of Jhelum in the Uri area in the Baramullah district.
Earlier yesterday, Modi inaugurated the train to Vaishno Devi from Katra.
He also met the Army soldiers at Badami Bagh Cantt., in Srinagar. The security arrangements in the state were tight.
