Pics: How Advani snubbed Narendra Modi during Bhopal rally in MP
Bhopal, Sept 25: Narendra Modi and LK Advani on Wednesday, Sept 25 shared the same podium in Bhopal during BJP's election campaign rally for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This was the first time when the two BJP leaders appeared in public together since the party announced its prime ministerial candidate. However, the veteran leader left chances for the party critics to raise questions regarding his relationship with Modi.
The Gujarat Chief Minister touched Advani's feet on the huge stage in Bhopal but the senior-most leader of the party barely looked at the party's prime ministerial candidate. It seems that Advani once again scripted another awkward moment for BJP.
Distances between Modi and Advani had been revealed when the party declared Modi as election campaign chief for upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Advani had skipped the gathering in Goa and later resigned from all crucial party posts. However, the veteran had withdrawn his resignations after being convinced by RSS.
Later Advani skipped BJP parliamentary board meeting held in Delhi where party president Rajnath Singh announced that Modi would be the PM candidate for the general election which is expected to be held in 2014.
Advani's attitude towards Modi during Bhopal rally might have left other party leaders in an "awkward" situation. Rajnath Singh later was seated between Modi and Advani on dais, the latter unsmiling.
While Advani addressed the crowd first, Modi spoke at the end of the rally. In his address, Advani praised Modi's developmental work in Gujarat, but added others to his list of BJP chief ministers with creditable achievements, most notably Chouhan. All through as Advani spoke, the two lakh-strong crowd chanted Modi's name.
