PhD holders apply for peon posts in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow, Sep 18: Around 23 lakh candidates that includes graduates, post graduates and PhD holders have applied for the 368 posts of peons in the Uttar Pradesh government secretariat.
Candidates with masters degree in Commerce, Science, and Arts have applied for the peon post. According to officials, there are 50,000 applications sent in by graduates and 24,969 by postgraduates. The number of PhD holders sums up to 250.

The minimum qualifications for the post of the peon are school education and bicycle-riding skills The job offers a monthly salary of about Rs 16,000.
Out of the total of 368 posts, 268 are for general candidates and the rest for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other reserved categories in the age group of 18-40 years.
The recruitment for the post was opened after a gap of 12 years. The authorities were planning to conduct an interview session for the selection of right candidates.
But with the number of applications, the authorities are looking for an alternate way.
