Mohan Charan Majhi Emphasises Support for Persons with Disabilities to Achieve Greatness
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasised the potential of persons with disabilities to excel when provided with adequate support and opportunities. At an event in Sambalpur, he distributed 500 e-rickshaws to individuals with disabilities. Majhi stated, "With the support, encouragement and opportunities from the government, they can prove themselves to be capable." He highlighted their achievements in sports, art, trade, and business.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) facilitated this initiative by supplying the e-rickshaws under its CSR programme. A company statement revealed that MCL had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Odisha's Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department. This project aims to provide livelihood support to persons with disabilities in the state.
CSR Initiative for Empowerment
MCL invested Rs 7.5 crore in this CSR initiative, which seeks to offer financial independence, mobility, and dignity to persons with disabilities. The project is designed to create a lasting impact on their lives by providing them with essential resources for self-sufficiency. The company's commitment underscores its dedication to social responsibility and empowerment.
During his visit to Sambalpur, Chief Minister Majhi also participated in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Janardan Pujari Government High School in Sindurpank and the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Government High School in Burla. At the Burla event, Majhi remarked that every school plays a vital role in society as an institution for human development.
Educational Initiatives in Odisha
Majhi highlighted that the Odisha government prioritises strengthening the education system and delivering quality education. He noted a 19% increase in the education budget compared to the previous year, allocating over Rs 35,500 crore for education this year. This investment reflects the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and opportunities.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Odisha is implementing the National Education Mission 2020. Majhi mentioned significant efforts are underway for the future of numerous students across the state. These initiatives aim to improve educational outcomes and prepare students for future challenges.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed that Odisha is set to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 comprehensively. He urged the state government to establish a dedicated building in Burla for nurturing new startups, aiming to promote self-employment among local youth.
The initiatives discussed during these events highlight Odisha's focus on empowering both persons with disabilities and students through strategic investments and policies. By fostering inclusive growth and development, the state aims to create a supportive environment for all its citizens.
