Pawan Kalyan’s Political Journey: From Power Star To Deputy Chief Minister, And Beyond
In an exclusive interview with OneIndia News, Andhra Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party Chief, Pawan Kalyan, delved into his political journey, ambitions and the future of his party. Widely known for his roles in Telugu cinema as "Power Star," Pawan Kalyan has made a significant transition from acting to politics. This journey, however, was neither planned nor sought after by him, as he emphasised that his primary motivation has always been the welfare of his nation and society.
'A Politician By Chance'

Pawan Kalyan is not your typical politician. He openly admits that he never aspired to hold any political position, including the Deputy Chief Minister's seat. "I never wanted to be an actor, I never wanted to be a political leader, and I never wanted to be the Deputy CM," he stated. For him, politics is not about seeking power or titles but about contributing to the well-being of the people.
Despite his reluctance, Kalyan's deep-rooted commitment to the nation led him to found the Jana Sena Party in 2014. Initially cautious about expanding the party or recruiting members, Pawan Kalyan was selective in choosing individuals who shared his commitment. "I want people of good commitment, people who believe in the cause to join. I don't like people who are just looking for a political platform," he remarked. This stringent screening process, while limiting rapid expansion, has ensured that Jana Sena remains a party of dedicated members, driven by a shared mission.
Alliance Politics and Future Prospects
The Jana Sena Party has often aligned itself with experienced political players like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by Chandrababu Naidu. Kalyan holds Naidu in high regard, especially for his administrative expertise. "We need the experience and expertise of Chandrababu Naidu. His administrative ability counts a lot," Kalyan said, emphasising that there is no rivalry or backstabbing within the alliance. This alliance, Kalyan believes, is critical to bringing the best outcomes for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
While political pundits and his own supporters often speculate about his future ambitions, Pawan Kalyan remains grounded. When asked if he envisions himself as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Kalyan responded with characteristic humility. "I want everything to happen organically. If it happens, well and good. If it doesn't happen, I am still well and good," he said. For him, the title of Chief Minister is not a goal to be actively pursued, but rather a byproduct of serving the people. He reiterated that the focus should remain on delivering good governance, irrespective of his position.
A Different Kind of Politics
Pawan Kalyan's approach to politics is notably different from the usual power-driven narratives that dominate Indian political discourse. He strongly believes in maintaining decency and dignity in politics, values that he says are often missing in the current landscape. He also pointed out that many leaders who joined him in recent times had initially been part of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), but they were drawn to his vision of a more respectful and committed political culture.
"I cannot promise something that I cannot deliver," Kalyan said, highlighting the integrity that defines his political approach. His resolve to build a party based on values, rather than immediate electoral success, has earned him admiration, even from political opponents.
The Road Ahead
As he navigates the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan remains focused on his primary goal-ensuring that the best outcomes are achieved for his people and his nation. While his rise from a popular film star to a Deputy Chief Minister may seem unusual, it is driven by an unwavering commitment to social good rather than a thirst for power.
Looking ahead, Kalyan's political journey will likely be defined by the values he holds dear: humility, integrity and a genuine desire to serve. Whether or not he becomes the Chief Minister in the future, one thing is clear-Pawan Kalyan's approach to politics is reshaping the narrative of leadership in Andhra Pradesh, one step at a time.
