Patna Metro Launch 2025: Nitish Kumar Unveils Route, Stations, Fares, Timings And Key Features

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the first phase of the Patna Metro on October 6, marking a historic day for the city's residents. The newly launched 3.6-kilometer elevated stretch of the priority corridor represents the beginning of Patna's long-awaited metro journey. Public operations will officially begin on October 7.

During the inauguration, CM Nitish Kumar also laid the foundation stone for six underground metro stations, including the major Patna Junction stop, along with a 9.35-kilometer tunnel, further expanding the project's reach in the coming years.

Capacity and Operations

The first phase of the Patna Metro currently spans 3.6 km and is a major milestone in the state's transport modernization efforts. Each Patna Metro train consists of three coaches, designed to accommodate around 138 seated passengers and an additional 945 standing passengers per trip.

Officials believe the metro's launch will significantly decongest Patna's roads and enhance urban mobility across key parts of the city.

Patna Metro: Route and Stations

In its initial stage, the Patna Metro operates on the Patna Junction ↔ New ISBT corridor, covering three key stations:

• Zero Mile
• Bhootnath Road

Once fully operational, the Blue Line (North-South corridor) will link Patna Junction and New ISBT, spanning a 16.2-kilometer route with five elevated and seven underground stations, totaling 12 stations:

• PMCH
• Patna University
• Moin Ul Haq Stadium
• Rajendra Nagar
• Malahi Pakri
• Khemmni Chak

Patna Metro: Ticket Prices and Timings

Fares for the Patna Metro have been fixed between ₹15 and ₹30. A trip from ISBT to Zero Mile will cost ₹15, while the longer route from New ISBT to Bhootnath Metro Station will cost ₹30.

The metro will operate daily between 8 AM and 10 PM, with trains running every 20 minutes. Each train includes 12 reserved seats for women and differently-abled passengers.

Patna Metro: Features and Safety Measures

Passenger safety and convenience have been central to the design of the Patna Metro. Every coach is equipped with 360-degree CCTV cameras, emergency buttons, and microphones that connect directly to the driver. Coaches also include cellphone and laptop charging points, front emergency doors, and bi-parting sliding doors to ensure secure boarding and deboarding.

Showcasing Bihar's cultural identity, the metro's interiors are decorated with Madhubani art and motifs of local landmarks like Golghar, Mahavir Mandir, and Buddha, presented in striking saffron tones.

Metro stations are designed with modern infrastructure to enhance accessibility and comfort. Facilities include escalators, lifts, stairways, ticket-vending machines, digital displays, platform screen doors, and public address systems. The concourse areas feature waiting lounges, information kiosks, food courts, retail outlets, and baggage screening zones for added convenience.

Security Arrangements

Security for the Patna Metro will be managed by the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP). Personnel from BSAP will be deployed throughout the metro premises-from entry gates to platforms-to ensure smooth and safe operations.

The launch of the Patna Metro marks a new era in Bihar's public transport system, promising a faster, cleaner, and more efficient travel experience for the city's commuters.
