Patiala medical student stabbing: Kamal Mittal found dead in New Lal Bagh PG, police investigating

Police in Patiala are investigating the killing of Kamal Mittal, a second-year medical student at Government Medical College, Patiala, who was found stabbed in his New Lal Bagh paying guest accommodation. Investigators say CCTV captured a suspected assailant fleeing with bloodstains. Forensic teams visited the scene, and other residents are being traced for questioning.

A second-year medical student at Government Medical College, Patiala, was allegedly stabbed to death inside a paying guest room. Police said the killing happened in the New Lal Bagh area on Monday. The victim was identified as Kamal Mittal. Kamal Mittal was from Bareta in Mansa district, and was living in Patiala for studies.

Police said the death came to notice late on Monday evening. Kamal Mittal did not answer repeated phone calls during the day. Friends then went to the PG accommodation to check. After entering the room, they found Kamal Mittal’s body. The body was covered in blood, police said.

Early findings showed the student suffered three to four stab wounds on the neck. Police said the injuries caused death at the spot. A suspect was also seen on a CCTV camera nearby. The footage allegedly showed the person running away from the area. Police said there were bloodstains on the suspect’s clothes.

Several police teams reached the location to secure evidence. Staff from the Civil Lines Police Station and New Officer Colony Police Post visited the PG building. Forensic experts also joined them at the scene. Senior officers, including the DSP, inspected the room. Police said they were collecting clues to identify the attacker.

Police said around four students stayed in the same building as PG residents. "We are tracing all of them for questioning.\" Police said Kamal Mittal’s family was informed soon after the discovery. The family reached Patiala on Monday evening, a senior police official said. Police were also checking other leads from the area.

A case was registered under relevant provisions of the law, police said. Investigators said they were still working to find the reason behind the killing. Police said teams were trying to trace the suspect seen in CCTV footage. The inquiry continued on Monday night as officers searched for more evidence and possible witnesses.
