Lance Naik Hanumanthappa had survived at the Siachen Glacier while his colleagues had died. It was nothing but a miracle and his grit that helped him survive despite being buried in ice for almost 6 days. At his village in Betadur, North Karnataka there were special prayers that were held for his speedy recovery. [As Lance Naik Hanumanthappa battles for life, a village unites in prayer]
Ramesh says that the family was so happy and his mother too was extremely sure that he will make it. They went to Delhi with a lot of hope. At least they were by his side when he breathed his last.
"I really do not understand what kind of fate this is", Ramesh also added while breaking down over phone.
Meanwhile, there is a deathly silence at the Bettadur village. Just two ago, there were scenes of jubilation with several people visiting the home of the soldier. [Please take my life. Let my husband live to protect the country: Lance Naik Hanumanthappa's wife]
Today too, there is a crowd outside his humble home where people have gathered to show solidarity with the family. The people say that Hanumanthappa, who has grown up before them had shown great determination but failed to make it.
"May be this is what fate had in store and God may have wanted him", they say.
