Pakistani Troops Violate Ceasefire In J-K, Suffer Heavy Casualties After Indian Army Retaliates

Pakistani forces faced significant losses on Wednesday after the Indian Army responded strongly to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. This incident followed a ceasefire breach by Pakistan in the Krishna Ghati sector, occurring a day after two Indian soldiers, including a Captain, were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the LoC in Akhnoor sector, Jammu district.

The ceasefire breach involved Pakistani troops initiating unprovoked gunfire on a forward post in the Tarkundi area along the LoC. This prompted a robust response from the Indian Army, leading to heavy casualties for the opposing forces. However, exact figures were not disclosed, and the Indian Army neither confirmed nor denied these reports.

Increased Tensions Along the LoC

The situation along the LoC has become tense due to increased hostile activities from across the border over the past week. This was the first ceasefire violation of the year and marked the fourth cross-border incident within five days. On Monday, a soldier was shot while manning a forward post in Kalal area of Nowshera sector, Rajouri district.

In another incident on February 8, an Army patrol came under terrorist fire from a forest across the LoC in Rajouri's Keri sector. The terrorists appeared to be waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate into Indian territory. Earlier, during the night of February 4 and 5, a landmine explosion reportedly caused casualties among terrorists attempting to cross into India from across the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector.

Security Measures and Military Response

A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained minor injuries after accidentally stepping on a landmine in the same sector. The JCO, hailing from Mendhar, was part of a patrol monitoring the LoC to prevent terrorist infiltration. The injured officer was promptly evacuated to a military hospital for treatment.

On February 10, Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, general officer commanding of Jammu-based White Knight Corps, assessed hostile activities along the LoC in Rajouri district. Accompanied by GOC Ace of Spades and GOC Crossed Swords divisions, he visited forward areas for an operational update on security conditions and hostile activities.

Military Leadership's Call for Vigilance

The White Knight Corps shared on social media that their commander praised all ranks for their vigilance and continuous operational focus. He also encouraged them to remain prepared for any eventualities. The Army's emphasis on readiness highlights ongoing tensions and potential threats along this volatile border region.

The recent incidents underscore persistent challenges faced by security forces along the LoC. With increased hostilities and infiltration attempts, maintaining vigilance remains crucial for safeguarding national security interests in this sensitive area.
