Widely considered soft towards separatists and Pakistan, Mufti's comments gain importance after Kathua and Samba incident, which killed six people and injuring many.

Mufti had held Pakistan responsible for terrorism in the state.

Urging Pakistan to rein in the terrorists operating from its territory, he has asked Pakistan to control terrorism if it wants peace and reconciliation

Expressing concern over the incident, Mufti after the incident said that a message must go out to Islamabad from the "country's strongest and most powerful assembly" that attacks like the ones in Samba and Kathua won't be tolerated in the future.
