Jammu, Aug 10: Pakistan violated the bilateral ceasefire twice in a day Sunday by opening unprovoked firing at Indian positions on the international border in Jammu district and along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

"Pakistan Rangers fired at the Nikowal Post of the Border Security Force (BSF) in RS Pura sector of the international border in Jammu district," police sources told IANS.

"The Pakistani firing started at 4.05 pm. The firing was unprovoked. They fired one round from sniper rifle at the BSF outpost. There was no damage or casualty on the Indian side," the sources said.

Earlier Sunday, the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire by firing without provocation at Indian positions along the LoC in Mendhar sector in Poonch district.

Pak violats ceasefire to help infiltration into India, agencies said

Defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS the Pakistani firing started at 11.30 a.m. "They used small arms and automatics," he said.

The Indian soldiers responded using similar calibre weapons.

"No damage or casualty was reported on our side," Mehta added.

Pakistan had violated the ceasefire in the same area two days back as well.

Army and intelligence agencies say Pakistan violates ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir to help infiltration of armed guerrillas into the Indian side of the border.
