India Accuses Pakistan of Breaching Agreement to Halt Military Actions

India and Pakistan agreed to halt military actions, but tensions quickly rose as India accused Pakistan of violating the agreement. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri urged Pakistan to address these breaches responsibly. This call came hours after both nations decided to cease all military activities on land, air, and sea immediately.

India Blames Pakistan for Military Agreement Breach

Misri announced that the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries reached this understanding during a call. The decision was initially revealed by US President Donald Trump on social media, claiming American mediation. However, Indian sources clarified that the agreement resulted from direct talks between India and Pakistan without any conditions.

Ceasefire Agreement Details

In a late-night press conference, Misri stated that Pakistan breached the understanding. He emphasised that India's armed forces were instructed to respond firmly to any further violations along the International Border and the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. "For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening," Misri said.

The foreign secretary reiterated that the armed forces are maintaining vigilance and responding appropriately to these breaches. "We take very serious note of these violations," he added. Misri called upon Pakistan to act responsibly and address these violations seriously.

International Mediation and Reactions

Trump announced the ceasefire on Truth Social, stating, "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE." He congratulated both countries for their sensible approach.

The ceasefire followed intense military confrontations after India's Operation Sindoor targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The decision came amid diplomatic efforts by the Group of Seven (G7) and countries like the US and Saudi Arabia urging de-escalation.

Ongoing Tensions and Future Talks

Misri mentioned that instructions were given on both sides to implement the understanding, with DGMOs scheduled to talk again at noon on May 12. Despite the ceasefire, India's punitive measures against Pakistan remain in place. These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty following a terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed no plans for discussions on other issues elsewhere. Indian sources stressed that terrorism would not go unpunished, reaffirming India's firm stance against terrorism.

The situation remains tense as both nations navigate this fragile ceasefire agreement. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, hoping for lasting peace between India and Pakistan.
