‘Pakistan Must Be Held Accountable’: India Urges Global Action Over PoK Crisis

In response to escalating unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), India has urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for what it describes as "horrific human rights violations" in the region.

During his weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the current unrest in PoK is a direct result of Pakistan's oppressive governance and systematic exploitation of resources in these territories.

The MEA strongly criticized Pakistan's administration of PoK, labeling it as an "illegal occupation", and condemned what it calls the denial of basic rights to the local population. According to the MEA, Pakistani authorities have suppressed fundamental freedoms through internet blackouts, excessive use of force, and discriminatory measures against residents.

India called upon the global community, international organizations, and human rights bodies to investigate the situation and ensure Pakistan is held responsible for these violations, urging immediate redress and protection for the people of PoK.

Context of the Protests

The unrest in PoK has been marked by large-scale anti-government demonstrations, led by civil society and political groups demanding basic rights, better governance, and an end to Pakistan's oppressive measures. In response, Pakistan deployed additional security forces, imposed communication bans, and carried out crackdowns on protestors.

Reports from the region indicate deaths, injuries, and the use of force against demonstrators, significantly worsening the humanitarian and political crisis.

India's MEA intervention highlights growing regional and international concern over the situation in PoK, emphasizing the need for transparency, protection of human rights, and an end to violence in the occupied territory.
