"Pakistan Link" Suspected In Bomb Threat Emails To Ahmadabad Schools: Police

Ahmedabad Police announced on Friday that a "Pakistan link" had been detected following bomb threat emails received by several schools in Gujarat's largest city.

Initially, investigators determined that the emails originated from a Russian domain, specifically from an email address, "[email protected]", as reported by Hindustan Times citing ANI reports.

Subsequent investigation revealed a connection to a military cantonment in Pakistan, with the emails traced back to an individual operating under the name Ahmed Javed, as detailed by Sharad Singhal, Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.

Another agency's inquiry also uncovered the involvement of the individual named Tohik Liyakat, who was reportedly engaged in "spurious activities," according to JCP Singhal. On May 6, a day before the Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat, at least 14 schools in Ahmedabad received threatening emails. Despite thorough searches conducted by police, no suspects or explosives were found at any of the schools, as reported by ANI.

Among the schools that received these threat messages were Asia School in Gurukul, Anand Niketan in Thaltej, Delhi Public School (DPS) Bopal, HBK School in Memnagar, Zebar School in Thaltej, Cosmos Castle International School on SG Road, and two Kendriya Vidyalayas in Chandkheda and Shahibaug Cantonment.

Some of these schools also served as polling stations for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. This incident in Gujarat occurred shortly after similar threatening emails were sent to over 100 schools in Delhi and neighbouring cities. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued an official statement labelling the emails as a "hoax," as per media reports.
