Pahalgam Terror Attack: Anantnag Police Sets Up Emergency Help Desk For Tourists
Pahalgam Terror Attack: In one of the deadliest attacks in recent years in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam on Tuesday, killing at least over 25 people, including foreign nationals, and injuring several others. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of Lashkar, has claimed responsibility, top intelligence, said.
The brutal assault unfolded just after noon, when two to three gunmen in military fatigues stormed the popular Baisaran Meadows. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants began firing indiscriminately at tourists-many of whom were women and elderly individuals enjoying horseback rides through the scenic area.

Security forces were quickly deployed, and a large-scale anti-terror operation has been launched to track down the attackers. Heart-wrenching videos from the scene show bodies lying motionless amid cries for help, with women frantically searching for their loved ones.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the massacre, calling it an "abomination." He said the final death toll is still being verified and described the incident as "much larger than anything we've seen directed at civilians in recent years."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia, spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah to assess the situation. The attack also coincided with US Vice President JD Vance's ongoing four-day visit to India.
"I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured. All necessary assistance is being provided, and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice. They will not be spared," said PM Modi in a firm statement.
