'Padmavat' producers move SC against ban on movie
Producers of controversy-hit 'Padmavat' movie have moved Supreme Court on Wednesday against the film being banned in certain states. At least six states- Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Haryana have banned the screening of the movie citing sentiments of Rajput community in their states.
The Rs 190 crore budget movie is produced by Ajit Andhare and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Owing to the costs mounted on the film by the delay in the release, Box Office India declared the film to be first Bollywood film to exceed Rs 200 crore (US$31 million) in its budget, which makes it most expensive Hindi film of all time.
Viacom 18 Motion Pictures (India) and Paramount Pictures (International) are distributors of the movie.
The movie is set for release on January 25.
