Over 3,000 DBC Workers May be Engaged as Multi-Tasking Staff in Delhi
A proposal to engage over 3,000 domestic breeding checking DBC workers as multi-tasking staff on contract basis is likely to come up in the next MCD House. DBC workers job involves prevention and control of malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
In a bid to strengthen the fight against vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue, a proposal to engage over 3,000 domestic breeding checking (DBC) workers as multi-tasking staff on a contract basis is likely to be presented in the next municipal House. Currently, there are 3,112 DBC workers engaged with the approval of the mayor and in accordance with the minimum wages fixed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). It is now proposed to engage these workers against vacant posts of multi-tasking staff (MTS) in various departments of MCD, including the Public Health Department.
Addressing Vacant Posts and Disease Control

The proposal, which is expected to be discussed in the next MCD House on Friday, aims to address the shortage of MTS staff while also ensuring that DBC workers can continue to focus on their crucial role in preventing and controlling vector-borne diseases. Apart from filling the existing 172 vacant posts in the Public Health Department, additional MTS posts will be created to accommodate the 3,112 DBC workers on a contract basis. These workers will be exclusively responsible for undertaking tasks related to the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases.
DBC Workers' Role in Disease Prevention
According to the Public Health Department, DBC workers play a vital role in checking the spread of dengue, chikungunya, and other vector-borne diseases. They conduct door-to-door surveys to inspect domestic containers, coolers, overhead tanks, flower pots, tins, and tires for mosquito breeding sites. Additionally, they create public awareness about the prevention of these diseases through various campaigns and initiatives.
The engagement of DBC workers as multi-tasking staff on a contract basis is a positive step towards strengthening the efforts to combat vector-borne diseases in Delhi. By utilizing the skills and expertise of these workers, the MCD can enhance its disease prevention and control measures, ultimately protecting the health and well-being of the city's residents.
