OROP issue: Bansal among Cong workers detained

Chandigarh, Nov 3: Former union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal was among other Congress workers detained today while staging a protest march over the issue of One Rank One Pension (OROP).
Led by local Congress president Pradeep Chhabra the protesters were moving from the party office here when police took them into preventive custody.
Earlier, the protesters paid glowing tributes to Ram Kishan Grewal, a 70-year-old former soldier, who allegedly committed suicide in the national capital yesterday on the issue of OROP.
Bansal said the Congress also condemned the way party vice president Rahul Gandhi was detained by Delhi Police yesterday when he was on his way to the hospital.
"It amount to muzzling the voice of people in a democracy," Bansal and Chhabra said while referring to the detention of Rahul and other party workers yesterday.
Local Congress workers, who termed their march as 'Jagriti' (awareness) protest, asserted the Modi government should implement OROP with immediate effect. Chhabra said, "Some 200 peaceful protesting party workers were detained by police."
However, later the detained Congress workers were released.
