OROP: Will Independence Day be special for armed forces veterans?

New Delhi, Aug 14: Will One Rank One Pension be announced tomorrow? The announcement may be made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he delivers his speech from the Red Fort tomorrow on the occasion of Independence Day.

Sources tell OneIndia that One Rank One Pension may be announced tomorrow.

Tomorrow is a significant day and the Prime Minister may speak about OROP in his Independence Day address.

A new dawn for ex-servicemen:

If the announcement is made it will be a new dawn for ex-servicemen who have been protesting seeking the implementation of One Rank One Pension.

The OROP provides pension parity among the ex-serivemen. The government had already indicated that all formalities were complete and only an announcement was remaining.

Sources in the government say that they are pained by the ongoing protests by the veterans of the armed forces. The protests do not send a right signal and the pain of these veterans would come to an end tomorrow once the announcement is made.

Protests will continue:

Earlier during the day, there were ugly scenes at Jantar Mantar where the protests by the members of the armed forces was taking place.

The police stepped in and decided to evict them from the site claiming that there was a security threat ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.

However after a scuffle and with the veterans resisting the eviction, the police allowed them to continue with their protests. The protestors say that they will await a decision by the government.

If the announcement comes through tomorrow then there will be none happier than us. However until such time the protests will continue, they said.
