Opposition parties boycott Kerala assembly, demand health minister's ouster
Mismanagement of admissions to self-financing medical colleges has led to massive embarrassment for the Kerala government
Opposition parties in Kerala assembly boycotted the session on Wednesday and staged a protest demanding the resignation of health minister. Five MLAs who have been demanding minister K K Shylaja's resignation over mismanagement of admissions to private self-financing medical colleges were joined by other members of the opposition on Wednesday.

Legislators shouted slogans and held placards demanding the ouster of health minister after the Kerala high court rapped the Pinarayi Vijayan government over admissions in self-financing medical colleges by way of an adjournment motion.
On Tuesday as well, members of the opposition protested in the well of the house demanding a statement by Pinarayi Vijayan on the matter. The UDF had attacked the health minister over strictures passed against her by the court while quashing the appointment of two members, including a CPI-M leader, to the Kerala State Commission For Protection Of Child Rights.
UDF MLAs V P Sajeendran, N Shamsuddin, Roji M John, Eldose Kunnappally and T V Ibrahim have been on a 'satyagraha' demanding the minister's resignation. The opposition has accused the minister of messing up with the medical admissions in self-financing colleges. The minister faces allegations of misuse of power and nepotism.
