Oppn MPs Sit On Night Protest Outside Parliament Over Sanjay Singh’s Suspension, Manipur Issue

The Opposition MPs continued their overnight sit-in in the Parliament complex on Tuesday morning, to protest the suspension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh from the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The sit-in also seeks to press for a statement from the Prime Minister on the Manipur issue.

The ruckus in the Rajya Sabha over the Manipur matter led Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar to suspend Sanjay Singh for the entire duration of the Monsoon session, citing "repeatedly violating the directives of the Chair."

Following his suspension, Sanjay Singh expressed his strong dissent, stating, "If this House is not for speaking on Manipur violence-like incidents and if they cannot give a reply... I would only say that the prime minister is a shameless, coward, and cruel ruler with whom we are ready to fight."

He questioned the Prime Minister's silence on the sensitive issue of Manipur and demanded that the Prime Minister come to Parliament and address the matter. Singh refrained from commenting on Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar's decision, noting that he is the Vice President and not directly associated with politics. He emphasized that it is their responsibility to raise the issue of Manipur in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the government is willing to engage in a discussion on the Manipur issue and urged the Opposition to allow the discussion to proceed. He emphasized the importance of revealing the truth concerning this sensitive matter to the nation, stating this in the Lok Sabha. In efforts to break the stalemate in Parliament, Union Minister Rajnath Singh held discussions with three Opposition leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay, and DMK's T R Baalu on the previous night.
