Oneindia regrets publishing wrong news on Asad-ud-din Owaisi

Oneindia News apologises for carrying a story on the chief of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and Honourable MP from Hyderabad, Mr Asad-ud-din Owaisi. In the article published in September we cited a report published in a Kashmir-based news site to say Mr Owaisi had issued a controversial statement related to the country's security.

We in Oneindia take full responsibility for the mistake of not verifying the facts about the report with Mr Owaisi before publishing it. We had no intention of targetting Mr Owaisi personally for we always try to be as objective while judging our stories. We deleted the story as soon as it was brought to our notice from Mr Owaisi's side.

We should have examined the veracity of the Hindi poster which was the source of the outrage to avoid falling prey to the online pranks and we regret the fact that our news item hurt the sentiments of the honourable MP and his supporters.

Oneindia is a young news organisation and we have had a learning experience in handling controversial news. We thank Mr Owaisi's party for raising this matter and we assure our readers that we will not dither to take the best possible steps in the future when it comes to maintaining journalistic ethics.
