Oneindia Exclusive On Jharkhand Elections 2024: Ranchi Voters Speak
In Ranchi, Jharkhand's first phase of voting commenced today with voters lining up at various booths, including Firayalal Public School. Residents expressed a mix of hopes and frustrations, emphasizing a desire for development, reduced corruption, and better cooperation between state and central governments.
Speaking to Oneindia correspondent from Ranchir , Aditi Das, a young voter, shared her aspiration for a corruption-free Jharkhand, noting that resources often don't reach lower-income groups. "I hope whichever government we voted for will bring real change for the people," she said.

Another voter, Mahua, voiced her concerns about Jharkhand's underdevelopment despite its rich resources. "We have so much wealth, but we're lagging behind. We want a developed Jharkhand where the poor have access to housing and food," she remarked, capturing a sentiment echoed by many voters.
Long-time voter Suman Singh described the voting atmosphere as positive and pointed out the popular support for candidate CP Singh. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the city's infrastructure, noting visible issues like open drains and broken roads. Singh emphasized the need for a "double-engine government"-the same party in power at both the state and central levels-to drive tangible development.
Manish Kumar, another local, conveyed optimism for change. "The atmosphere is good, and there will be change," he stated before heading to cast his vote. He noted that progress over the past years has been slower than expected, attributing it to a lack of alignment between state and central governments. He expressed a desire for cohesive leadership at both levels, believing that such a government would effectively fulfill development promises.
In contrast, another voter expressed support for the Hemant Soren government, applauding its resilience during challenging times, including the pandemic. "The Soren government faced challenges from the start, yet managed well. Allegations and harassment haven't stopped from the central agencies, but they continue working for Jharkhand," the voter stated, adding confidence in Soren's return to power.
Jharkhand's political landscape has seen shifts over the years, with frequent changes in leadership. Many voters hope this election will bring the stability and governance they feel is needed to propel the state forward.
