In Kolkata, commercial gas cylinders will be available at Rs 1839.50 instead of Rs 1636, in Mumbai at Rs 1684 instead of Rs 1482, and in Chennai at Rs 1898 instead of Rs 1695.

CENTRAL GOVERNMENT'S NEW CONNECTIONS UNDER UJJWALA SCHEME: In an earlier development in September, the Union Cabinet had sanctioned approximately 75 lakh new LPG Connections under the Ujjwala Yojana as per a report in India.com. It was communicated that these connections would be distributed over the next three years, with an estimated total cost of Rs 1,650 Crore. Anurag Thakur, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, stated that these connections were targeted at households relying on wood for cooking, a practice that has adverse effects on women in rural households.
It's worth noting that this initiative builds upon existing deposit-free connections provided under the Ujjwala Scheme. Additionally, it was disclosed that the initial expenses for these connections would be covered by the Central government, with reimbursement by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) at a later stage.
