Old Mysuru Dashes HD Kumaraswamy's Kingmaker Dreams
The JDS has suffered a big blow in its stronghold of Old Mysuru region in the recently-held Karnataka Assembly election.
The party, which was dreaming to play the role of kingmaker if there was a hung assembly, is unlikely to even get 25 seats, the early trends show. The JDS was hoping to bag at least 35 seats from this region, but it looks like the party might end up winning around 20-22 seats. In 2018, it won 27 seats.

Big Shocker
The shocking part of the story is that the JDS is losing Ramanagara Constituency, the stronghold of the JDS, as Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of former CM HD Kumaraswamy, is trailing by over 10,000 against Congress candidate HA Iqbal Hussain. The seat has been with the party for close to two decades.
In Mandya, Congress candidate Ravikumar Gowda has defeated JDS candidate BR Ramachandra.
While HD Kumaraswamy won the seat by a margin of 16,000+ votes, his brother HD Revanna emerged victorious in the JDS bastion Holenarsipura by less than 4,000 votes.
The only Silverline, as of now, for the regional party is that the JDS wrested the Hassan seat from the BJP as Swaroop Prakash has defeated Preetham Gowda.
Going by the early trends, the Congress is expected to win over 35 seats in the Old Mysuru region, thereby shattering the dreams of HD Kumaraswamy who was expecting to become the kingmaker or in other words the Chief Minister of the state for the third time.
Congress Back to Power
Congress is back to power with a bang. Going by the trends, it is winning over 135 seats while the BJP has being reduced to 60+ seats.
