Odisha Introduces Deputy CMs: A Mix of Veteran and Fresh Faces

In a significant political development in Odisha, the state is set to witness the swearing-in of its new deputy chief ministers on Wednesday, showcasing a blend of seasoned and fresh political prowess. K V Singh Deo, a stalwart with six terms as MLA and a former minister, is poised to join forces with Pravati Parida, who marks her debut in the legislative assembly. This duo represents a striking contrast in political experience but shares a common goal of governance.

Odishas New Deputy CMs Blend Experience

K V Singh Deo, hailing from the distinguished erstwhile royal family of Patnagarh, has been elected for the sixth time from the Patnagarh constituency. His political journey is adorned with significant roles, including serving as the Minister of Industry and Public Enterprise during the BJP-BJD coalition government from 2000 to 2009. Adding to his political lineage, Singh Deo's wife, Sangeeta Kumari Devi, has served as an MP from Bolangir four times. His educational background includes a graduation from Delhi University, and he is the grandson of R N Singh Deo, who was the Chief Minister of Odisha from 1966 to 1971.

On the other side of this partnership is Pravati Parida, who steps into the assembly for the first time in 2024 representing the Nimapara seat after three unsuccessful attempts. Parida's academic credentials include a law degree obtained from Utkal University in 1995, followed by her enrollment as an advocate in the Orissa High Court the same year. She further enhanced her qualifications with a postgraduate degree in Public Administration from Utkal University in 2005.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a remarkable entry into power in Odisha by securing 78 out of 147 assembly seats, thereby concluding the 24-year governance of the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The ceremony that will officially inaugurate the new government is scheduled at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

This transition marks a pivotal moment in Odisha's political landscape, introducing a blend of experience and new perspectives at the helm of its governance. The collaboration between K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida underlines the BJP's strategic approach towards leveraging diverse political acumen to steer the state towards its developmental goals.
