Odisha: Kamakhya Express Train Derails, Rescue Underway

The Kamakhya Express train derailed near Choudwar in Odisha on 30th March. The incident occurred close to the Manguli passenger halt after departing from Cuttack station. Reports indicate that 11 bogies of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express were affected. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among the passengers.

East Coast Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Ashoka Kumar Mishra, confirmed the derailment near Nergundi Railway Station in Cuttack. "We got information about the derailment of some coaches of 12551 Kamakhya Superfast Express. As of now, we have the information that 11 AC coaches have been derailed. No one is injured. All the passengers are safe," he stated.

Relief Measures and Train Diversions

Following the derailment, an accident relief train and emergency medical equipment were dispatched to the site. Senior officials, including DRM Khurda Road and GM/ECoR, rushed to oversee the situation. The priority is to divert trains on this route and commence restoration work promptly.

In response to the incident, several trains have been rerouted. These include train numbers 12822 (BRAG), 12875 (BBS), and 22606 (RTN). Resources have been mobilised, with NDRF and fire services informed for additional support.

Assistance for Affected Passengers

Helpline numbers 8455885999 and 8991124238 have been activated to assist stranded passengers. Arrangements are underway to ensure they reach their destinations safely. Officials are yet to receive any reports of casualties or injuries among those on board.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the incident involving train number 12551 in Odisha. "I am aware of the incident involving 12551 Kamakhya Express in Odisha. @CMOfficeAssam is in touch with the Odisha Government and Railways," he posted on X.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation, with further details expected following an inquiry.
