Odisha Exit Poll 2024: BJP Set To Sweep Lok Sabha, Naveen Patnaik's BJD In Trouble - Axis My India Poll

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll indicates that the BJP is on track to secure a comfortable majority in the Odisha Lok Sabha polls, with projections suggesting a potential victory of 18-20 out of the total 21 seats.

Similarly, projections from the same exit poll suggest that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the incumbent ruling party, may only manage to secure 0-2 seats, while the Congress is expected to secure 0-1 seats.

Additionally, the C-Voter exit poll echoes these sentiments, indicating that the BJP is likely to secure 17-19 seats out of the 21 available in Odisha, with the BJD potentially securing 1-3 seats. Meanwhile, projections from News18's exit poll paint a similar picture, projecting the BJD to secure only 6-8 seats, while the BJP could clinch victory on as many as 15 seats.

The electoral process in Odisha unfolded over four phases this year, with six pivotal seats contested during the final phase, including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur. When considering the distribution of vote share, the projections suggest that the BJP is likely to commandeer the majority with 51%, followed by the BJD with 33%, and the Congress with 13%.

The ruling BJD, under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, is aiming for an unprecedented sixth consecutive term in the state government. Patnaik himself contested on two seats, Hinjili and Kantabanji, having previously secured victory in the Hinjili and Bijepur seats during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, although he opted to retain the former.

Despite expressions of confidence from Patnaik's aide VK Pandian, who predicted a victory for the BJD in 15 out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP remains optimistic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended an invitation to the people of Odisha to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government scheduled for June 10.

In the 2019 elections, the BJD experienced a notable decline in its seat count, securing only 12 seats compared to its previous tally of 20 in 2014. Meanwhile, the BJP and Congress secured 8 and 1 seats, respectively. Notable constituencies in Odisha include Hinjili, Kantabanji, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sambalpur, and Jajpur.
