Odisha Deputy CM to Address Food Quality Concerns in Anganwadi Centres

Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy has instructed Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida to provide a detailed statement on measures taken against agencies supplying substandard 'Chhatua' to Anganwadi centres. This directive came after several MLAs raised concerns about the poor quality of the food item distributed under a supplementary nutrition programme.

Quality Concerns Raised by MLAs

BJP MLA Padmalochan Panda criticised the previous BJD government, alleging that substandard 'Chhatua' had been distributed over the last 24 years. He claimed that the suppliers had become wealthy while providing inferior products. Panda demanded the removal of current suppliers and the engagement of new ones to ensure better quality.

Senior Congress legislator Taraprasad Bahinipati echoed these concerns, stating that although 'Chhatua' is intended as a nutritional supplement for children, its poor quality has led to it being rejected. He urged the government to consider alternative nutritional foods for distribution in Anganwadi centres.

In response, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida assured that the quality of 'Chhatua' would be thoroughly checked across the state. She committed to submitting a comprehensive report on this matter to the House.
