Nun gangrape case: Breakthrough as 4 Bangladeshis arrested

The Punjab police have picked up four Bangladeshi nationals in connection with the nun rape case. Four persons were picked up in Ludhiana after they had allegedly fled from West Bengal after the incident.

The Punjab police while acting on the inputs received from various quarters picked up the four men. They are now being questioned for further leads. A team of the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department will now seek custody of the four persons.

Tally goes to six

With the arrest of these four men the number of arrests in the nun rape case has gone to 6. Last week the CID had arrested two persons in connection with the case.

Mohammad Salim was arrested from Mumbai while Gopal Sarkar was picked up from 24 North Paraganas in West Bengal. Both the accused persons have been questioned and it appears as though they gave information regarding the other accused persons.

The CID says that in all there were seven persons at the crime scene. We are hopeful of arresting all of them the officer informed OneIndia.

All Bangladeshi nationals

All the six persons who have been arrested are Bangladeshi nationals. Salim was a hardened criminal while Sarkar had slipped into West Bengal from Bangladesh in the year 2002 itself and was working as a painter.

Sarkar is the one who had housed all the accused after the incident. His wife too had confirmed to the CID that the accused had stayed at their house. She had even identified them after seeing the CCTV footage which clearly shows their faces.

Further the CID was told by the accused that they had intended to commit robbery at the convent. However the nun was raped after she had tried to stop them. They also speak about a person called Milan Bhai who plotted this operation and said that he was based out of Bangladesh.
