NTA Reschedules UGC-NET Exam to Aug 21-Sept 4 After Integrity Row
Amidst a heated debate over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced new dates for cancelled and postponed tests. The UGC-NET will now take place from August 21 to September 4.

The University Grants Commission–National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was cancelled on June 18 after the education ministry received reports of a compromised exam. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the question paper had been leaked on the darknet and circulated via the Telegram app. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating the matter.
CSIR UGC-NET Rescheduled
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET, which was postponed due to concerns over exam irregularities, will now be held from July 25 to July 27. This test is crucial for PhD admissions in various scientific disciplines, including Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
The UGC-NET determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships, assistant professor appointments, and PhD course admissions. Unlike previous years, the exam was conducted offline and on a single day this year. However, the rescheduled exam will revert to the earlier Computer Based Test (CBT) format spread over two weeks.
NCET New Dates Announced
The National Common Entrance Test (NCET) for admission to the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), initially scheduled for June 12 but postponed hours before its start, will now be conducted on July 10. This test is essential for select central and state universities or institutions, including IITs and NITs.
In response to alleged irregularities in medical entrance exams like NEET-UG and PhD entrance NET, the Centre recently formed a panel to ensure transparent and fair conduct of exams through the NTA. The NEET exam is under scrutiny due to several allegations, including paper leaks.
Two other exams—CSIR-UGC NET and NEET-PG—were also cancelled as a precautionary measure amid these allegations. The government aims to restore trust in the examination process by addressing these issues comprehensively.
The NTA's decision to reschedule these exams reflects its commitment to maintaining the integrity of competitive examinations. Ensuring fair conduct is crucial for upholding academic standards and providing equal opportunities for all candidates.
