NRI voting rights: Law soon says centre
"This is a petition of 2014. Every year you keep saying 'we will amend'.
The Centre has told the Supreme Court that it is amending the law so that NRIs can vote in their countries. The submission was made in the SC which is hearing a petition regarding the voting rights for Non Resident Indians.

The government told the court that it would need 2 weeks time to file its reply as to what changes are required to be made to the Representation of Peoples' Act.
The SC on the last date of hearing had said that voting rights for NRIs must be given. The court had asked the government as to why it had not amended the act as yet.
"This is a petition of 2014. Every year you keep saying 'we will amend'. You said this in 2014, 15, 16 and again. This is not the way your government runs, the SC had also said.
