NRC issue: Assam TMC chief quits party over Mamata Banerjee's statement
Guwahati, Aug 2: Assam Trinamool Congress Chief resigned from the party on Thursday over West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee' statement on Assam NRC issue.
Dwipen Pathak after resigning from Assam TMC Chief's post, said, "What Mamata Banerjee said about NRC, that it has been brought in Assam to drive out Bengalis, I don't agree with that. It might create disturbance here & the blame would be on me as a president, so I've resigned from the post."

Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday had said the NRC could lead to a "bloodbath and a civil war in the country".
Also, in a rally held in Kolkata she accused the central government of conspiring to drive Bengalis out of Assam. She said the central government is "discriminating" against Bengali-speaking people in Assam.
The Assam Police has registered two FIRs against Mamata Banerjee after receiving complaints that her statements are divisive in nature and may create animosity between communities in Assam.
