Now, carry your Aadhaar on your Mobile

Unique Identification Authority of India, which issues Aadhaar numbers, has launched mAadhaar app for mobile users that will allow you to carry your Aadhaar card on your smartphone.

This app is easily available on Google Play store. With this, the user will no longer need to carry the hard copies of their Aadhaar card.

What does the mAadhaar app do?

Once the user setup the app, you need to upload your Aadhaar card profile. The app will let users share their number to Aadhaar profile, data with third-party applications via NFC, QR codes, Barcodes or even email their details.

What is the important feature?

This feature is meant to secure biometric authentication by locking biometrics data. Once the user enables Biometric Locking system their biometric remains locked till the Aadhaar Holder chose to either Unlock it (which is temporary) or Disable the Locking system."

For the security reasons

Apart from the biometric locking and unlocking system, the app also has Time-based One-Time Password generation which will generate your temporary password and that can be used instead of the usual SMS based OTP.

Need to share details?

If you need to share details of your Aadhaar card, then the user can share their QR code and eKYC data by Aadhaar Number holder system

However, the app is currently in beta stage, notes UIDAI in its announcement tweet, and some of the features will be made available post future updates.
