Now, an 'Olympic City’ near Noida Airport

An ultra-modern city and a sports zone with Olympic-level facilities will be developed around the Noida International Airport in Jewar as per the Master Plan-2041 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).

According to the proposed master plan, the region is also estimated to inhabit 41.7 lakh people by 2041, and to cater to this growth there will be a need of 8 lakh homes, 1,200 hectare of commercial space and 4,000 hectare of industrial land.

"The sports park will be spread over 950 acre of land while the village, which will be developed on the lines of the Commonwealth Games sports complex (known as Asiad Village) in Delhi, will be built on 250 acre of land. It will have facilities like players' living quarters and practice areas among others," the Times of India quoted YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh as saying.

YEIDA, which is an undertaking of the Uttar Pradesh government, manages the land and development works along the expressway. The upcoming Noida International Airport remains the focus point of the master plan, the area surrounding which is being developed with commercial and residential facilities.

"Although cricket is not part of Olympics, there is a possibility of it being included due to the popularity of T20 matches. Besides, arenas for athletics, running tracks, hockey, volleyball and football, among others, will be built. It will be an ideal place to host the Olympics or international sporting events," the daily quoted Singh as saying.

The plan stated that an 'Olympic City' will be developed in two parts - one will be Olympic Park and the other will be Olympic Village which would spread over 390 hectares and 52.4 hectares, respectively.

A golf course, a central business centre, warehouse and logistics facilities have also been proposed in the master plan, the YEIDA official said.
