Now Aadhaar or passport to be mandatory to fly within India
The government is likely to circulate the draft civil aviation requirement (CAR) to the public next week and invite suggestions.
In order to fly in domestic routes, the government may now make Aadhaar or passport mandory as an identity proof by June or July. The move, in line with the government's proposed no-fly list, is to implement a 'fool proof' method to identify passengers.
According to a leading daily, following the scuffle between Air India and Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad, the government is trying to make either of these two pieces of identification mandatory to ensure safety on airlines and prevent unruly passengers from boarding. The category of offense would also determine for how long a passenger could be grounded.
The government is mulling over introducing a four-level gradation system in its no-fly list which will categorise flyers based on their past offensesMinister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha took to Twitter on Saturday to announce that the DDCA is strengthening rules so that a national no-fly list can be implemented.
