Northeast elections: Congress releases candidate lists for Tripura, Meghalaya polls
The Congress on Saturday announced the first list of its candidates for the coming elections to the 60-member Tripura and Meghalaya assembly.The party is fielding 56 candidates in Tripura, and 57 in Meghalaya.

Tripura assembly election will be held on 18 February, followed by Meghalaya on 27 February. Counting will be held on March 3. Each state has 60 assembly seats.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will be contesting the polls from two seats.
Meanwhile, Congress president Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Shillong on January 30 for a two-day meeting with the party workers and supporters of the poll-bound state.
The Congress had faced a major setback earlier this month when five of its MLAs resigned from the assembly and joined the NPP, and two other legislators moved to the BJP and the newly formed People's Democratic Front.
