Tripura

There are 60 seats up for grabs in Tripura. The BJP-IPFT alliance swept to power in the state in 2018, defeating its arch-rival Communist Party of India (Marxist). The BJP won 35 seats and the IPFT 8. However, this time, the stakes are high for the BJP as the saffron party is facing the heat of anti-incumbency.

The Left and Congress will fight the elections together as they did in 2018. The two parties would also face a challenge from the TMC which has been trying to increase its base in the state.

Tribal vote holds the key in Tripura and Tipra Motha has become a formidable challenge for BJP, Congress and Left with the demand of 'Greater Tipraland'.

Nagaland

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio of the ruling coalition the United Democratic Alliance is going strong in the state as there is hardly any opposition.

In 2018, it was the Naga People's Front (NPF) that emerged as the single largest party, winning 27 seats. The BJP, however, forged an alliance with the NDPP, the Janata Dal (United) and formed the government.

While the NPF too joined the ruling alliance in 2021, it is now faced with a challenge after 21 of its MLAs joined the NDPP last year.

This time the BJP is contesting in 20 of the 60 seats while backing the NDPP candidates in 40.

Meghalaya

In the 2018 election, the National People's Party (NPP) won 19 seats, the Congress claimed 21 seats, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won two seats. The United Democratic Party (UDP) emerged victorious in six constituencies.

However, the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) came to power with support from BJP, UDP, and other regional parties.

This time, the BJP and NPP haven't formed an alliance and are contesting solo while the Trinamool Congress has emerged as a strong force in the state, after roping in former chief minister Mukul Sangma.

Incumbent chief minister and NPP chief Conrad Sangma and former chief minister Mukul Sangma are locked in a prestige battle from the Garo Hills region.
