Noida Crime Rate Drops in 2023: Murders, Crimes Against Women, Thefts Decline

Noidas Crime Rate Takes a Turn for the Better in 2023

Noida, a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has witnessed a significant decrease in murders, crimes against women, burglaries, and vehicle thefts in 2023, according to official data. The city has experienced an overall improvement in its crime situation compared to the previous two years.

Reduction in Murders and Vehicle Thefts

In 2023, Noida recorded 50 murder cases, marking a decline from 53 cases in 2022 and 74 cases in 2021. Additionally, there were 1,098 vehicle thefts reported this year, which is lower than the 1,336 cases in 2022 and 1,259 cases in 2021.

Drop in House Burglaries

The number of house burglary cases in Noida also saw a substantial decrease in 2023. There were 88 burglary cases reported this year, compared to 141 cases in 2022 and 136 cases in 2021.

Crimes Against Women

Noida has made significant progress in addressing crimes against women. In 2023, the district recorded a 21% reduction in such crimes compared to 2022 and a 24% drop compared to 2021. A total of 453 cases of crimes against women were reported in the year gone by, down from 576 in 2022 and 596 in 2021.

Convictions and Arrests

The Gautam Buddh Nagar commissionerate, which oversees Noida, has achieved a high conviction rate for crimes against women. In 2023, there were 4,085 convictions in such cases, although this number is lower than the 2,260 convictions in 2022 and 3,236 convictions in 2021.

Additionally, the police have taken strict action against gangsters and criminals. In 2023, 396 accused were booked in 72 cases under the stringent Gangsters Act, up from 56 cases and 277 accused in 2022. The value of movable and immovable assets belonging to gangsters that was attached under Section 141 of the Gangsters Act also increased substantially in 2023, reaching Rs 81 crore compared to Rs 59 crore in 2022 and Rs 48 crore in 2021.

NDPS Act Cases

The police have also intensified their efforts to combat drug trafficking. In 2023, the police commissionerate arrested 646 accused in 559 cases lodged under the NDPS Act, up from 569 cases and 641 accused in 2022. Over 4150 kg of contraband, including marijuana, hashish, and MDMA, was seized during these operations.
