No shortage of essential medicines in GMCH: Goa deputy CM    

Panaji, August 5: Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza today ruled out that there was a shortage of essential medicines in state-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and expressed hope that medical facilities would improve overall after the implementation of Deen Dayal Swasth Seva Yojana (DDSSY).

"As far as possible, doctors prescribe medicines to the admitted as well as OPD patients preferably as per the list of items provided by the hospital or as per the patient's indication. For admitted patients, if the medicine is not available with the hospital Pharmacy, local purchase is made for the same and supplied to the patients free of cost," D'Souza told in the House.

The deputy CM, who also holds Health portfolio, said DDSSY which will be implemented from August 15 this year onwards and will solve all the issues related to health sector in the state.

D'Souza said presently there is no shortage of syringes, blood testing kits and essential medicines in the GMCH.

All blood testing tubes are presently available in the hospital pharmacy of GMCH. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said GMCH is a 1,200 bedded facility which also handles 1,800-2,000 regular patients in Out Patient Departments.

"Our attempt is to make sure that everyone gets cent per cent treatment," he added.
