No Contest Between NCP and BJP for President's Post in Solapur Nagar Panchayat

The newly-formed Nagar Panchayat in Angar village, located in Maharashtra's Solapur district, will not witness the expected contest for the president's position between the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This development follows the rejection of the NCP candidate's nomination on Tuesday.

The rejection of Ujwala Thite's nomination, representing the NCP led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, has paved the way for BJP's Prajakta Patil to potentially become the first president of this newly established local body. Thite had submitted her nomination amid tight security on Monday, citing threats from BJP supporters who allegedly tried to hinder her access to the nomination centre.

Nomination Scrutiny and Validity

During the scrutiny process, nominations from BJP's Prajakta Patil and independent candidate Saraswati Shinde were deemed valid. Although a contest for the municipal council president is still possible, clarity will only be achieved after November 21, which is the deadline for withdrawing nominations. Despite this, a direct face-off between NCP and BJP is now off the table.

The NCP and BJP are part of the ruling Mahayuti coalition at the state level. Following Thite's disqualification, BJP supporters celebrated by bursting crackers. All 17 councillor positions have already been filled without opposition.

Political Dynamics and Alliances

Prajakta Patil is related to former MLA Rajan Patil, who recently shifted allegiance from Ajit Pawar's NCP to join the BJP. This political shift adds another layer to the ongoing dynamics within Maharashtra's political landscape.

While an independent candidate remains in contention, it appears that Prajakta Patil is poised to assume leadership of Angar village's Nagar Panchayat. The unfolding events highlight the intricate political alliances and rivalries shaping local governance in Maharashtra.
