No more grace marks, CBSE scraps moderation policy
The CBSE however, made it clear that students who require grace marks to clear a paper will be awarded the same.
In a move that may not make students very happy, the Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to scrap its moderation policy. The CBSE cancelled its policy of granting grace marks to students in examinations for difficult questions. The moderation policy allowed the board to give students 15 per cent extra marks on papers that were deemed difficult. In a high-level meeting, the decision to scrap moderation policy was made.

The move comes after the board has asked the HRD ministry to help develop a consensus among all boards to do away with the marks moderation policy that led to inflated results during board exams scores. The CBSE however, made it clear that students who require grace marks to clear a paper will be awarded the same.
The sorting cut-offs for college admission may go down if all state boards agree to do away with moderation policies.
