No More Elections In India If PM Modi Returns To Power: Nirmala Sitharaman's Husband

If Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government comes to power again, there would not be elections anymore, Parakala Prabhakar, husband of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, has warned.

In a video shared by the official X handle of Congress, Parakala Prabhakar is heard saying, "Agar ye sarkar aayi to uske baad chunav hoga hi nahin (If this BJP government returns, then India will never see elections again)"

He also claims that the constitution and the map of India will change if Modi returns to power. "Aap isko pehechan bhi nahin sakenge (You would not be able to recognise this [India])," he added.

The economist mentions several instances of hate comments in the recent years and claimed that such comments will become mainstream. "Modi himself will give a hate speech from the Red Fort," he stated and earned that "the hate speeches will be Khula Khel".

The Manipur situation might spread to other parts of the country. He stated, "Jo Manipur me ho rha hai, aap ke ilaake me bhi ho sakta hai, hamare ilaake me bhi ho sakta hai, kahi bhi ho sakta hai."

Who is Parakala Prabhakar?

Sitharaman's husband, Parakala Prabhakar, initially affiliated with the Congress, made unsuccessful bids in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections from Narsapur, first in 1994 and then in 1996 (by-election).

Later, Prabhakar joined the BJP and contested the 1998 Lok Sabha elections from Narsapur, facing defeat once again.

In 2008, he aligned with cine star Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party but departed shortly after. Subsequently, he served as communications advisor to the Chandrababu Naidu government with a cabinet rank. However, he resigned from the post in June last year following TDP's separation from the NDA amid integrity concerns raised due to his wife being a BJP minister.

Sitharaman's father-in-law, Parakala Seshavatharam, enjoyed a successful political career and held ministerial positions multiple times in Congress-led governments in Andhra Pradesh. Her mother-in-law, Parakala Kalikamba, also served as a Congress MLA.
