No merit in allegations: ECI tells Mayawati
She had demanded that the polling be held through ballot papers, but the EC dismissed the complaint and said that the process had been fair.
"There is no merit in the allegations of EVM tampering," the Election Commission has told the Bahujan Samaj Party. The ECI replied to a complaint filed by BSP supremo Mayawati after her party faced a humiliating defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Mayawati had alleged that the BJP won with a thumping majority due to the EVMs being rigged and had sought a re-election. She demanded that the polling be held through ballot papers. In her complaint to the ECI, Mayawati had alleged that the people had lost trust in EVMs.
The ECI, however, dismissed her charge while stating that the election process had been a fair one. All check and balances were in place and none of the EVMs had been rigged.
