No Local Trains On Kharghar-Panvel Route For 38 Hours From Tonight, Here Is Why

The Central Railway will embark on a substantial 38-hour shutdown on the Kharghar-Panvel route beginning at 11 p.m. on Saturday. This will result in terminating 170 services prematurely and short-stopping 700 trains at Belapur. This move is crucial for building two new lines for a dedicated western cargo corridor. The restrictions will be removed at 1 p.m. on October 2.

Throughout this duration, railway officials revealed that the CR plans to restructure the Panvel suburban rail yard and erect two new routes for a dedicated goods transportation corridor from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust to Delhi on the western side.

Consequently, over 170 services will be discontinued and 700 trains will conclude their routes prematurely at Belapur. The authorities stated that they have requested the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and other public transit entities to provide extra bus services.

The impact of this obstruction was experienced on Friday, with Panvel-bound trains being cancelled and others facing delays.

"The need for two new rail lines is a critical component for the corridor. As it's a long weekend, we expect fewer passengers will be affected by this railway block," a CR official said.

Services on the Harbour Line will start from Belapur, Nerul, and Vashi stations. The Trans Harbour Line trains will operate between Thane and Nerul/Vashi stations. The last Harbour Line local leaving Panvel will be at 10:35 p.m., reaching CSMT at 11:54 p.m. The last local to Panvel will leave CSMT at 9:02 p.m. and arrive at Panvel by 10:22 p.m. The last Trans Harbour local for Panvel will leave Thane at 9:36 p.m., arriving at 10:28 p.m.; the final local leaving Panvel will be at 9:20 p.m., reaching Thane by 10:12 p.m.

The initial train heading to Panvel after the block is set to depart from CSMT at 12.08 p.m., and it is anticipated to arrive at 1.29 p.m. on October 2. Likewise, the first local leaving from Panvel is scheduled for 1.37 p.m., with an expected arrival at CSMT at 2.56 p.m.
