No confidence motion: Who said what

New Delhi, July 20: The Lok Sabha on Friday took up the no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government tabled by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and other opposition parties.

TDP opened the debate, fielding millionaire Jayadev Galla, managing director of the Amar Raja Group that produces batteries.

During the debate on the first no-confidence motion Galla cited a Telugu movie to sharpen his attack on the BJP.

Galla said the saga of Andhra Pradesh during this Modi-Shah regime was a saga of empty promises. He quoted from Mahesh Babu-starrer Telugu movie 'Bharath Ane Nenu', in which an NRI son taking up the reigns of the state following his father's death. Galla said the theme of the movie was "a promise is a promise".

SP patriarch and Azamgarh MP Mulayam Singh Yadav said under the BJP's rule, farmers are worried and unemployed have no way out. "BJP workers unhappy with their own govt," Yadav quipped.

BJP following "divide and rule": Kharge

Congress leader Kharge said PM Modi had promised farmers that they would be given MSP as per the Swaminathan Commission during 2014 elections. However, it turned out to be a hollow promise.

On the issue pertaining to Andhra Pradesh, Kharge accused the BJP-led central government of following "divide and rule". "We are supporting the TDP even if they don't support us," Kharge said.

Ram Vilas Paswan blames Congress for problem concerning Andhra Pradesh

Defending the present government, Union Minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan claimed that the problems of Andhra Pradesh are not new and the Congress has to be blamed for the situation.

Paswan also highlighted pro-poor initiatives of the government such as free housing, free toilets, total sanitation projects.

Accusing the Opposition of portraying a wrong message that the government is anti-Dalit, Paswan said the change in reservation policy was directed by the Supreme Court and not the government. "We have appealed against the verdict and obtained a stay," he said.

Dinesh Trivedi says TMC stands with people of Andhra Pradesh

Trinamool Congress MP Dinesh Trivedi said his party stands with the people of Andhra Pradesh. He said the party moved no-confidence motion were once with the NDA. 'If a former ally is unhappy, ima8gine the plight of other states,' Trivedi said.

Trivedi criticises the central government on several issues. "Whenever we pose a question to the government, they say Hindu-Pakistan, Hindu-Musalman, Shamshan-Kabristan," he said.
