No chance says Shivakumar on being asked about alliance in Karnataka

There have been a couple of opinion polls which have spoken about a hung-verdict in Karnataka.

While in 2018, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, it was still a hung house. The JD(S) and Congress went on to form the government, but the same collapsed as many MLAs rebelled and joined the BJP. Eventually the BJP formed the government.

However will it be a repeat this year with the JD(S) likely to play kingmaker.

Karnataka Congress chief, D K Shivakumar has said that there will be no alliance with the JD(S). "There is no chance of an alliance with the JD(S). We will form the government on our own," Shivakumar said.

This statement comes in the wake of former chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah claiming that the Congress will form the government on its own. He has said that the party would win 130 to 150 seats.

In 2018, the Congress won, 78, JD(S) 37 and NJP, 104.

Similarly the JD(S) too had said that it would form a government with the Congress. JD(S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda was similarly dismissive when asked if there was a chance of his party aligning with the Congress.

The Congress this time has based its campaign largely on the corruption of the BJP government. However in the last leg of the campaign, the party received negative press when party boss, Mallikarjun Kharge made personal remarks against the Prime Minister. His son too was not far-behind in making comments against the PM. Lastly the party in its manifesto had promised to ban the Bajrang Dal and PFI if voted to power.
