No CAA, UCC, NRC In Jharkhand: Hemant Soren-Led JMM Passes 50-point Resolution On 46th Foundation Day

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday celebrated its 46th foundation day. A big event was organised at Dumka's Gandhi Maidan, where thousands of JMM supporters gathered. During the event, Chief Minister Hemant Soren made several big announcements including a big no to implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Jharkhand.

From the stage, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren criticised the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of deceiving Jharkhand's people through the Union budget. He claimed that individuals with a feudal mindset hinder the progress of tribal-dominated regions like Jharkhand, which remains underdeveloped despite its substantial contributions to national revenue from mineral resources.

Demands for Equal Treatment

Soren urged the central government to treat all states equally, especially those that are less developed. He highlighted that while Jharkhand contributes significantly, it receives little in return and must fight for its rights. The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the Union budget, stating it favours the wealthy and neglects the poor.

He criticised tax rebates as ineffective due to rising inflation and noted no changes in GST. Soren also mocked a new initiative called GYAN (Garib, Yuva, Annadata, Nari), which promises aid through loans rather than grants.

Focus on Women's Welfare

Soren emphasised Jharkhand's pioneering role in providing financial assistance to women, offering Rs 2,500 monthly. He pointed out that when similar initiatives are announced by other parties like BJP in Delhi, they are not criticised as 'freebies'. This highlights a perceived double standard in political discourse.

The JMM also demanded strict enforcement of the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act and Santal Pargana Tenancy (SPT) Act. Additionally, they urged the central government to promptly settle "Rs 1.36 lakh crore dues" owed to Jharkhand.

"The Citizenship Amendment Act, Uniform Civil Code and National Register of Citizens should be completely rejected in Jharkhand," stated the party resolution verbatim.
