No age for passion! 70-year-old woman bags 2 gold in athletics championship in Haryana

New Delhi, Mar 24: A 70-year-old woman took everyone by surpriseby winning two gold and a silver medal in an athletics championship competition in Rohtak.

Shanti Devi is famously known as 'Dadi' in her village Bagad which is in Jind district of Haryana.

As per a report in news18.com, "She was welcomed by the people of her village with pomp and show. While some showered money, a few danced on the DJ, the local MLA himself reached the spot to honour her achievement."

She participated in the Haryana Veterans Athletic Association in Rohtak and won medals in long jump competition and 100 metre race, and 200 metre race.

Shanti Devi was eager to participate in the contests when she learnt about them and even her grandchildren motivated her to participate in the athletics competition.

When she came back to the village afetr winning the competition, she was welcomed by Safidon MLA Jasbir Deshwal.

"She is inspiration for youth today. Our daughters must be encouraged to participate in sports after seeing her perform the way she did," Deshwal was quoted as saying in the report.
